Adad Hannah

Adad Hannah profitera de sa résidence à Daïmon pour explorer un concept sur lequel il travaille depuis deux ans. Après avoir construit un dispositif dans un caisson, il va tourner une vidéo sur cette installation. Le projet autonome qui contient à la fois l’œuvre et la production de l’œuvre est une idée qui l’intéresse fortement depuis un certain temps. Actuellement présentée au Musée national des beaux-arts d’Ottawa jusqu’au 24 avril, son oeuvre All Is Vanity (Mirrorless Version) formait déjà une étape dans cette direction. Hannah s'intéresse à la façon dont la vidéo et la photographie relient l’indiciel et le fictionnel, l’ici et maintenant ainsi que le lieu même, à un moment légèrement différent.
Adad Hannah est né à New York en 1971. Après avoir grandi en Israël, à Londres et à Vancouver, il a obtenu un Baccalauréat en arts (BFA) à l’Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design à Vancouver et une Maîtrise en art (MFA) à l’Université Concordia (2004). Il vit et travaille à Montréal.
Adad Hannah s’est fait connaître par ses tableaux vivants de modèles prenant la pose durant un temps prolongé à travers lesquels il subvertit la vérité de l’image photographique. En focalisant l’attention sur la dimension performative inhérente à la photographie, il crée un espace de réflexion qui transforme les spectateurs passifs en agents historiques pleinement conscients. Ses projets récents incluent la série Prado Stills réalisée au Musée du Prado à Madrid et The Raft of the Medusa (100 Mile House), tourné dans une petite communauté de la Colombie britannique avec un groupe d’élèves du secondaire et une imposante installation haute de trois étages.
Ses dernières expositions ont été accueillies par The Aldrich Museum, Connecticut (2010), The Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney (2010), Zendai MoMA, Shanghai (2009), le Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (2008, 2009), Galerie Thomas Schulte, Berlin (2008), Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2006), la quatrième édition de la Seoul International Media Art Biennale (2006) et la Casa Encendida, Madrid (2006).
Les œuvres de Hannah sont visibles dans plusieurs musées et dans différentes collections privées et corporatives du monde.

Adad Hannah

For his residency at Daïmon Adad Hannah will explore an idea he have been mulling over for the past two years. He will build a small set within a crate, and then shoot a project on this set. The idea of a self-contained project that contains both the artwork and the production of the artwork is something Adad Hannah have been working towards for a while. All Is Vanity (Mirrorless Version), which is currently on view at the National Gallery in Ottawa until the 24th of April, was a step towards this idea. He is interested in the way video and photography bridge index and fiction, the here and now and the same place at a slightly different time.
Adad Hannah was born in New York in 1971, and grew up in Israel, London, and Vancouver. He earned a BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver (1998), and an MFA from Concordia University in Montreal (2004). He currently lives and works in Montreal.
Adad Hannah is best known for his video-recorded tableaux vivants of models holding poses for extended periods in order to undermine the verity of the photographic image. By drawing our attention to the performance inherent within photography, he creates a space for reflection that transforms passive viewers into self-conscious historical agents. His recent projects include the Prado Stills series, shot in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, and The Raft of the Medusa (100 Mile House), which was produced in a small community in British Columbia with a cast of high school students and a large set measuring three-stories high.
