David Miller est présent pour la seconde moitié d'une résidence de production de quatre semaines, débutée l'an dernier. Il travaille à la production d'animations panoramiques, de photomontages de grand format et d'épreuves argentiques à la gélatine.

David Miller a présenté ses œuvres au Canada et sur la scène internationale depuis 1984. Ses recherches continuent d'emprunter plusieurs formes et sont motivées en partie par le potentiel qu'a l'art d'aller au-delà de la spécialisation disciplinaire, par le biais d'une approche méta-disciplinaire de la pratique artistique. Seul et en collaboration, il produit des photographies, des dessins, des projections et des installations, des œuvres in situ, des sculptures et des performances. Il complète actuellement des cycles de photographies et d'animations portant sur le travail de la mémoire à la suite du fascisme. Il conçoit également des événements dans le but de relier les gens et de rétablir la mémoire communautaire perdue. Son travail photographique explore le lien créé par l'image technique entre l'évidence (l'apparition) et l'irréparable (la disparition). D'une manière générale, son art traite de la corporéité et du savoir, de la vérité et de la croyance, de la technologie et de la nature, de la mémoire et de l'histoire.

David Miller a étudié la photographie, le cinéma et l'art audio au Sheridan College of Arts and Technology; la pratique interdisciplinaire et l'histoire de l'art au Nova Scotia College of Art and Design; le théâtre de l'opprimé avec Augusto Boal, et la problématique de l'art public et de la sphère publique au Simon Fraser University's Institute for Contemporary Art.

Il a enseigné la photographie, le dessin, les médias et l'histoire de la photographie au Canada et à l'étranger, notamment à l'Université de Lethbridge; au Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (Halifax); à l'Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary); à l'University de Guelph; au Banff Centre for the Arts; à l'Académie du cinéma, des médias et des arts de la scène (Prague); à l'Académie d'art, d'architecture et de design (Prague); au Centrum voor Fotografie (Amsterdam); à l'Université technique de Brno; au Centro de la Imagen (Mexico).

David est né à Montréal; il a vécu et travaillé au Canada, en Chine, aux Pays-Bas, en Allemagne, en Pologne, en République tchèque, en Slovaquie, en Hongrie, en Israël, En Espagne, aux États-Unis, en Italie et au Mexique.

Residency from May 18th until May 31st 2009

Meet the artist and his work on Wednesday May 27th from 5 pm until 7 pm
At DAÏMÕN's StudiÕ, 80 Hanson St., Gatineau

David Miller is present for the second half of a four week production residency which began last year. He is producing panoramic animations, large scale photomontage and black and white silver gelatin prints.

David Miller's works have been presented across Canada and internationally since 1984. Motivated in part by the potential of art to move beyond disciplinary specialization--by a metadisciplinary approach to art practice--his research has and continues to assume multiple forms. Working alone and also collaboratively, he produces photographs, drawings, projections and installations, site-works, sculpture and performances. Currently, he is completing cycles of photographs and animations that take part in the negotiaition of memory in the aftermath of fascism. He is also designing events with the aim to connect people and restore lost community memory. His photographic work explores the relationship that the technical image establishes between what is evident (appearance) and with the unrecoverable (disappearance). Broadly, his art is concerned with embodiment and knowledge, truth and belief, technology and nature, memory and history.

David Miller studied Photography, Filmmaking and Audio Arts at Sheridan College of Arts and Technology, Interdisciplinary Studio and Art History at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Theatre of the Oppressed with Augusto Boal, The Problematics of Public Art and the Public Sphere at Simon Fraser University's Institute for Contemporary Art.

He has taught courses in Photography, Drawing, Open and Extended Media and the History of Photography for institutions in Canada and abroad: University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge; Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax; Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary; University of Guelph, Guelph; The Banff Centre for the Arts, Banff; The Academy of Cinema, Media and Performing Arts, Prague; The Academy of Art, Architecture and Design, Prague; The Centrum voor Fotografie, Amsterdam; Technical University, Brno; The Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City.

David was born in Montreal and has lived and worked throughout Canada, in China, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Israel, Spain, U.S.A., Italy and in Mexico.
