Une performance sonore au StudiÕ de DAÏMÕN
le mercredi 17 décembre à 20 h.

S’inspirant du personnage principal d’une œuvre littéraire des frères Arkadi et Gueorgui Vaïner, Érick d’Orion construit une fresque sonore en 23 mouvements empruntant la structure du roman L’évangile d’un Bourreau. 23 jours dans l’évangile d’un bourreau est une création sonore où l’artiste jour après jour, chapitre après chapitre explore le monde de Pavel Egorovitch Khvatkine, personnage principal, membre influent des sections spéciales du KGB. Créée à l’occasion d’une résidence de 23 jours l’œuvre d’Érick d’Orion prendra la forme d’une fresque sonore composée de «field recordings» captée dans des lieux industriels, portuaires et agricoles, d’échantillonnages tirés d’œuvres des régions soviétiques et communistes ; de superposition de prises de son et de techniques mixtes d’art audio glané ou créé quotidiennement.

La performance d'Érick d'Orion s'inscrit dans le cadre de sa résidence à DAÏMÕN (programme Recherche et création) du 21 novembre au 17 décembre 2008.

Artiste audio, en installation et en nouveaux médias, compositeur/musicien autodidacte et commissaire audio résidant à Québec depuis 1993.
Concentrant en bonne partie ses recherches audio sur le maximalisme numérique, d’Orion effectue un travail qui se rapproche étroitement du noize, de la musique concrète, du free jazz et de l’électroacoustique.
Parallèlement ou conjointement, il développe des projets d’installations où l’audio et les nouvelles technologies sont assemblés pour créer des œuvres en continuel mouvements devenant autant des sources que des diffuseurs audio . Présentement, ses réflexions portent principalement sur la réinterprétation, l’appropriation et la relecture de certains concepts de l’histoire de l’art, en particulier la musique concrète, le dadaïsme et le futurisme, le tout sans être passéiste. La redéfinition de l’espace acoustique ainsi que le rapport entre l’imaginaire du spectateur devant les images, les objets, les environnements et les icônes familiers ou faussement mythiques font partie intégrante de son travail en installation.
Il fait parti du duo morceaux_de_machines. Il est co-commissaire chez Avatar, anime une émission de radio hebdomadaire sur les ondes de CHYZ à Québec, est membre du comité consultatif jeunesse du CALQ et fait parti des conseils d’administration du centre d’artistes La Chambre Blanche, du collectif en arts médiatiques Perte de Signal et de la station de radio CHYZ. 
Son travail a été présenté au Canada, en Europe, en Australie, à Cuba et au Mexique.
Il sera en résidence de création pendant 2 mois en Espagne en 2009 dans le cadre des Pépinières européennes.

La soirée se poursuivra avec DAÏMÕN-DISCO-AXE, une célébration des fêtes organisée en collaboration avec AXENÉO7. L'évènement mettra en vedette des performances sonores et visuelles (VJ) par : Érick d'Orion, Christof Migone, Ryan Stec, Morceaux_de_machine et Meat Parade.

Inspired by the principal character in the novel L’évangile d’un Bourreau by the brothers Arkadi and Gueorgui Vainer, Érick d’Orion has created a sound fresco in twenty-three movements using the structure of the book. 23 Days in the Gospel of an Executioner is a work of sound art in which d’Orion, day after day, chapter after chapter, explores the world of Pavel Egorovich Khvatkin, the main character, an influential member of the elite section of the KGB. The work will be created during a residence of twenty-three days and will take the form of a sound fresco made up of field recordings taken in industrial, port and agricultural zones, samplings of work from Soviet and communist regions and superimposed sound recordings and sound-art using a variety of techniques, gleaned or created on a daily basis.

Érick d’Orion's performance is presented as part of his residency (Research and Creation program) at DAÏMÕN from November 21 to December 17 2008.

Sound, installation and new media artist, self-taught composer and musician and sound-art curator living in Quebec City since 1993.
Focusing his sound research in large part on digital maximalism, d’Orion creates work that is closely tied to noize, musique concrète, free jazz and electro-acoustic music.
In parallel or in tandem with this work, he develops installation projects in which sound and new technologies are assembled to create constantly-moving works which become both audio sources and audio broadcasters. Currently, he is working principally on re-interpreting, appropriating and re-reading certain art historical concepts, especially musique concrète, Dada and Futurism, without being stuck in the past. Re-defining acoustic space and the relationship between the viewer’s imaginary world and the familiar or falsely mythical images, objects, environments and icons they observe is an integral part of his installation work.
D’Orion is a member of the artistic duo morceaux_de_machines. He is co-curator at Avatar, hosts a weekly radio show on CHYZ in Quebec City, is a member of the youth consultancy committee at the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and is a member of the board of directors of the artist-run centre La Chambre Blanche, the media art collective Perte de Signal and the radio station CHYZ.
His work has been presented in Canada, Europe, Australia, Cuba and Mexico. In 2009 he will take up a two-month artist’s residency in Spain as part of the Pépinières européenes.

The performance will be followed by DAÏMÕN-DISCO-AXE, an holiday celebration brought to you in collaboration with AXENÉO7. The event will showcase sound performances and VJing by:Érick d'Orion, Christof Migone, Ryan Stec, Morceaux_de_machine and Meat Parade.
